Supported by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China since 2004, the Seventh Edition of the China International Gallery Exposition (CIGE 2010) has developed to be Asia's leading modern and contemporary art expo with considerably high international participation. CIGE 2010 is engaged in presenting a panorama of the most artistic and creative modern and contemporary art. CIGE 2010 welcomes and encourages any form of art expression, including photography, video, painting, sculptures, mixed media, installations, prints, digital and net art, textile, design… Understanding the relevance of technology and globalization on the economic infrastructure of the art world, CIGE 2010 SPECIAL PROJECTS invite galleries, artists, not-for-profit art organizations, museums, institutions, private collections, and visitors to reflect on our contemporary visual culture.
The majority of the works to be exhibited are art creations by Professor Lee Sun-Don, including Lee's latest photography series "My Inspiration DNA", sculpture "Sentient Universe", and the series "Treasure Gate". Lee Sun-Don uses the Auspicious Lion Head Door Knocker as the theme material in series "Treasure Gate", which is a door decoration mostly seen in the wealthy households in Beijing during the years between the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic. Combining the collectible antique of more than a hundred years history with the western oil paints, the beautiful artwork is the child of a perfect marriage of the east and the west. While this long forgotten tradition being put far behind the urban development, these discontinued Auspicious Lion Head Door Knockers are now back to the antique marketplace as a hot art craft item of rich cultural significance. Lee Sun-Don collected these rare antiquity objects, infused them with new colors, thus turning the final work into "antiquity" art painting of high market value, which not only sustains Chinese traditional technical arts, but further opens up a new eastern contemporary artistic style.
